HOW IT WORKS
Coverage includes a tonnage guarantee for each variety or insurance unit. Your yield history may be taken into account for the approved yield used to determine guarantee.
Coverage is determined:
Your Approved Yield
X Coverage Level you select
X Insurable acres for the unit
X Your Share
= Guaranteed tons for the unit
Loss Payments Are Made:
Your Guaranteed Tons for the unit
- Tons produced or appraised
= Ton Loss
X Price Election X Your Share
= Unit Loss Payment
If you have Buy-up coverage, you may set up separate insurance units with individual guarantees, subject to requirements.
ELIGIBILITY
Some of the insurability requirements include meeting the following minimums:
- Insurable age: vines are 4th growing season after being set out, or the 3rd growing season after being grafted
- Productivity: acreage has produced a minimum of 2 tons per acre in one of the last 3 years
THE COST
Cost begins at $300 per grape variety, per county. USDA’s approach to farm programs includes a strong emphasis on crop insurance, so premiums are subsidized up to 67% to make coverage more affordable.
DEADLINE TO APPLY
