Hawaii Crop Insurance — Macadamia Nuts & Trees

USDA-BACKED CROP INSURANCE is available to Hawaii Macadamia Nut Growers in two policy forms. A grower may carry either or both:

Macadamia Nut (Production Guarantee)
Production guarantee based upon wet-in-shell average

Macadamia Tree (Dollar Plan)
Tree coverage, offering a dollar amount of coverage against insurable damage to trees

CAUSES OF LOSS COVERED

Unavoidable damage or loss caused by:
a) Adverse weather conditions
b) Fire (when weeds are controlled)
c) Volcanic eruption, Earthquake, Wildlife
d) Failure of irrigation water supply due to causes a-c above
Insects and disease are excluded UNLESS no effective control measure exists.

COVERAGE LEVELS

Catastrophic (CAT) Coverage
Available for a fee of $100 per county, with no additional premium paid by you. This is the lowest level of coverage and is subsidized 100% by the USDA. The deductible is 50% with an additional loss reduction factor of 55%.

Buy-up coverage
Coverage levels with deductibles of 25% to 50% are also available. The USDA subsidies are currently higher than ever, making coverage more affordable – see reverse for examples of buy–up premiums.

THE COVERAGE PERIOD

Applications for coverage must be signed by December 31 prior to the coverage period. Coverage Begins January 1, and ends the earlier of:

Macadamia Nut Policy
June 30, the following calendar year, (18 Month bloom thru harvest coverage)

Macadamia Tree Policy
December 31, the same calendar year (12 month coverage)
